Jerome A. Bruns, 70, of Marshalltown, died Monday, August 8, 2011, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 12, at the St. Henry Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Visitation for Jerome will be held from 8:30 a.m., until time of service at St. Henry Catholic Church. Following cremation, a private family burial will take place at a later date. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Jerome and his family.Jerome was born October 31, 1940, the son of Louis and Cecelia (Geisler) Bruns. He was raised and educated in Waterloo, Iowa, until the sixthgrade when his family moved to Hudson, Iowa. Jerome went on to graduate from the Hudson High School in 1958. Following graduation Jerome honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army and stationed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for two years. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Jerome went on to follow his passion in life of being an over-the-road truck driver. He spent many years driving across the entire United States, traveling from the East Coast to the West Coast several times. During his free time Jerome enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and was an avid golfer, but most of all loved to spend time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Jerome is survived by Sally Bruns of Marshalltown, his children: Wendy Bruns of Cedar Rapids, Anthony Bruns of Marshalltown, Michael Bruns of Marshalltown and Andrew (Karen) Bruns of Hayward, California, his four siblings: Chuck Bruns of Waterloo, Joe (Jan) Bruns of Cresco, Iowa, Ann Neidert of Texas and Steve Bruns of Hudson, and hisseven grandchildren: Jeff, Jenna, Tessa, Cody, Michael Tim, Atalia and Amara, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jerome was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Bonnie.
