Jerome "Jerry" Mcdaniel

June 25, 1933 — May 25, 2023

Jerome Donald McDaniel was born on June 25, 1933 to James "Jimmy" and Darlus "Dolly" McDaniel in Cincinnati, Ohio. Jerry graduated from high school in Cincinnati and went on to obtain his Bachelor's degree from Ohio University in Mechanical Engineering. Jerry served his country honorably as a United States Naval Airman during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Jean "Jeanie" Marie Wright. in 1961 in Cincinnati. Together, they lived in Cincinnati, Chicago, St.Louis and finally moved to Marshalltown in 1978.


Jerry previously had worked for G.E., Mound Laboratory and Monsanto and retired from Fisher Control's in 1992. He had a love for dancing especially clog dancing and was a member of the Corn Flake Cloggers and the Moose in Newton. He also enjoyed reading scientific and medical literatures, feeding and watching the birds, watching war documentaries, loved Elvis and was a big fan of Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Western's, especially the "Good, Bad and Ugly." He enjoyed going back to Cincinnati and Iron Mountain, MI to visit family and friends every year. We have fond memories of dad transplanting Michigan pine trees to the McDaniel forest.


Jerry is survived by his children: James (the late Janis) Holliday of Detroit, Michigan, Sharon (the late Gene-O) Bailey of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mark (Maria) McDaniel of Marshalltown, Rebecca (Doug) Jones of Mitchellville and Allison (Edward) McDaniel of Germantown, Maryland; Grandchildren: Rachel, Sandy, Steven, Lisa, Melissa, Seth, Mark Jr. and Ryan along with great grandchildren: Procopio, Vincenzo, Silvanna, Ethan, Elijah, Kolten, LillyAnna, Jameson and Fiona; Nieces: Colleen, Maureen, Katie, Jenny, and Kerry; Nephews: Barry, Michael, and Kevin.

Jerry is also survived by his dear friend and dance partner Deloris Clayton.


Jerry is preceded in death by his wife Jean; parents Jimmy and Darlus; brothers Larry and Ronny and his son in law Gene O Bailey and daughter in law Jan Holliday.
