Jerry Ahrens was born September 24, 1934 in Kimberly, Minnesota. His family moved to the Grinnell, Iowa area when he was a teenager. He was united in marriage to Freda D. Claybrook on June 18, 1955. They made their home in the Grinnell area until moving north of Gilman in 1968. Jerry had a variety of jobs as a young man but spent the last 30 years of his working life as a machinist and Supervisor at Fisher Controls in Marshalltown. He and his wife, Freda, also owned and operated Gilman Tap for a few years following his retirement from Fishers before handing over the reins to their son, Randy. Jerry passed away Saturday, May 6th, 2017 after a brief illness. The family would like to express their appreciation to North Iowa Hospice where Jerry spent his final days for their kindness to both Jerry and his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Freda, and his parents. He is survived by his four children, Cheryl (Dennis) Villebrun, Appleton, Wi., Susan Stallwood, Mason City, Iowa, Marsha (Mark) Hintch, Fort Dodge, Iowa and Randy (Lisa) Ahrens of Rhodes, Iowa along with 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren with one more on the way.
