Jerry Gummert

Jerry Gummert, 81, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on February 16, 2019 at the Iowa River Hospice Home with his family at his side.   At this time no services are planned for Jerry. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Jerry and his family.   Jerry Gummert was born on December 1, 1937 to parents William and Gladys (Fields) Gummert in Marshalltown, Iowa. He attended school in Quarry & Le Grand Iowa when he had left school and enlisted in the United States Navy. Spending his four years as a Machinist Mate. After leaving the service Jerry had met and married his wife Norma (Peshel) Gummert. The two were married on May 21, 1957 in Le Grand, Iowa. Not long after two sons Mark and Ken, even being six years apart they always kept Jerry on his toes.  He worked for Swifts for over 30 years. Jerry held many hobbies including racing stock cars, re building cars, watching western movies, boating, camping, enjoying time gaming at the casino, and spending time with his grandkids.   Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Norma; children Mark (Kristy) Gummert and Ken (Penny) Gummert; grandchildren Joe (Brittney) Gummert, Christopher (Ashleigh) Gummert, Twins Jeremiah  and James Gummert, Travis Gummert, Molly Gummert and  Seth Gummert,4 step grandchildren; Matt, Levi, Branden, and Haley (Storjohann) great- grandchildren Alexis, Landi, Jordin, Bailey, Layla, Chase, and Journey.   In death, Jerry is reunited with his parents William and Gladys; brother Tom Gummert and sister Todi Gummert; and grandson Ryan.
