Jerry Charles McCright Passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Born on December 30, 1946, in Independence, Iowa, Jerry was the son of Charles and Merle (Wright) McCright of Troy Mills. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James McCright, and his infant sister Debra McCright. Jerry is survived by his daughter Angela Van Pelt (Brian) of Van Meter, Iowa and his siblings Connie Butterfield of Coralville, Iowa, Shari Kuhn of West Des Moines, Iowa, Terrie Johnson (Dick) of Vinton, Iowa, and Doug McCright (Debbie) of McKinney, Texas.
Jerry attended Troy Mills High School and served in the United States Navy for two years. He was known as a jack of all trades, demonstrating a remarkable skill in fixing, reparing, or rebuilding any appliance or vehicle. Jerry was a dedicated member of Alcoholics Anonymous for more than 46 years. He was well known for his generous spirit, often offering a trailer on his property to those in need of a helping hand. Jerry touched the lives of many, becoming a friend to all he met, and he will be missed.
Jerry was married to four special women during his lifetime: Rita Covington, Donna Jean Wheeler, Marsha Floy, and Liz Herger. He was also a companion to many lovely ladies, and his warmth and kindness were evident in the relationships he built.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at the Tory Mills Christian Church on Friday, October 9, 10:30AM at Troy Mills Iowa. Burial will take place at the Troy Mills Cemetery.
The family extends a special thank you to the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown Iowa for the exceptional care and kindness they provided to Jerry and his family.
