The Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown is caring for Jerry and his family. Ph: 641-844-1234. Born Jerry Allen Rogers on March 30, 1934, at Liscomb, Iowa, he was one of two sons born to Victor and Marie (Botts) Rogers. He attended school in Liscomb and later graduated from the Whitten High School. Soon after graduation, Jerry served our country honorably in the United States Army. On June 27, 1954, he was united in marriage to Mary Hager in Union. The couple resided in Union where he began a wonderful legacy of community involvement and earning the nickname, Mr. Union. Jerry was owner and operator of Rogers Auction and Real Estate, served two terms as mayor, many years on the Union-Whitten School Board and was involved in the merger with B-C-L. He also served on the board of the South Hardin Rec Center establishing the tennis courts, golf course and pool, and a member of the Trees Forever as well as the Whitten Community Church where he was raised. Jerry from a young age was instilled with the gift of compassion and service to others. That gift comforted many families when estates were settled and properties were transferred and help when anyone needed it. Left to cherish his memory are Mary, his loving wife of 57 years, his children: Marty (Judy) of Scotts Bluff, Nebraska, Brent (Ann) Rogers of Gifford, Brenda (Wendall) Horst of Urbana, Iowa, Linsey Rogers of Union, Kelly (Carmen) Rogers of Springtown, Texas; 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many, many friends. In death, Jerry rejoined his parents and brother Robert. He also rejoined his father-in-law, Jack, who died many years ago. Following Jacks death, Jerry became an advisor and dear friend as well as son-in-law to Sadie who also preceded him in death.
