Jerry Stansberry

Jerry Lee Stansberry, 76, of the Iowa Veterans Home, died Thursday, July 30, 2009. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4th at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Iowa Veterans Home Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family. Jerry Lee Stansberry was born in Molton, Iowa, on December 2, 1932. He was the son of Joel Dean and Iris (Wright) Stansberry. He graduated from Albion High School in 1950. Jerry served our country honorably in the United States Navy, enlisting in 1951. On December 1, 1956, Jerry married Bonnie Hawkins at Central Christian Church in Marshalltown. Jerry worked for Chicago-Northwestern for 28 years, retiring in 1993. He also owned Jerrys Body Shop. He was a member of the American Legion, Iowa Street Rod Association, and Marshalltown Street Rodders. He enjoyed stock car racing, car shows, his 1936 Ford Truck, and working in his garage. He is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Bonnie Stansberry, of Marshalltown; his children, Judi (Jim) Pfantz of Melbourne, JoAnn (Harold) Rice of Wichita Falls, TX, and Jack (Lori) Stansberry of Marshalltown; his grandchildren, Josh Stansberry, James Stansberry, Summer Roberts, Jeri Jo Stansberry, and Sharissa Stansberry; his great-grandchild, Jayde Stansberry; and his siblings, JoEllen (Chuck) Blazek, Janine (Bob) Albers, Steve (Sherie) Stansberry, and Ed (Sherri) Stansberry. In death, he has rejoined his parents and grandparents.
