Jerry Wisecarver

September 30, 2033 — October 21, 2012

We are sad to announce the passing of Jerry Wisecarver formerly of Marshalltown while under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. Jerry Wisecarver, son of Ray and Freda Hills Wisecarver was born September 30, 1933 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He graduated from MHS class of 1951 and attended Marshalltown Jr. College. Jerry worked for the Marshalltown Post Office for thirty-two years as a letter carrier and a clerk. Following his retirement he worked for Renners Flowers, Niehouse Cleaners, and driving for Toby Godfreys (Airport Express). He truly enjoyed these part time jobs that allowed him the opportunity to meet new people. Jerry was previously married to Anne Bealls. They shared two children, Jeffery Walters and Kimberly Baker both of Pennsylvania. Jerry and Anne divorced in 1971. He married Kathryn L. Risner (Urfer) in 1976. Through his eight long years of illness there was much love shared between Kathy and Jerry. It could be seen in the hours of handholding and care given by his devoted wife. He was stepfather to Diane (Urfer) Simpson. Jerry was grandfather to nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In his healthy years Jerry loved to travel and enjoyed checking out campers or airplanes any chance he had. Jerry enjoyed watching football, basketball, and Nascar races. He was very fond of his granddaughter, Lizzy, with whom he had a very special bond. Jerry was also crazy about his dog, Poe. In his later years, he came to know many friends at the State Center Nursing and Rehab Center where he lived for the last four years. He brought a smile to many with his quick and witty sense of humor. He will be greatly missed. In death he joins his mother Freda and his father Ray. Left to mourn his memory are his loving wife Kathryn Wisecarver (State Center, IA), children: Jeff Walters (Pennsylvania), Kimberly Baker (Pennsylvania), Diane (Steve) Simpson (State Center, IA), his grandchildren, his sister Pam Isaacson (Sioux Rapids, IA), extended family, many friends, and his dog. Services will be held at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 27. Funeral service begins at 11:00 A.M. and will be followed by a lunch. Private burial will take place later in Grinnell, IA. Memorials should be directed to the family.
