Jess F. Martelli, 83, a longtime resident of Marshalltown, Iowa, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, March 26, 2014. Funeral services for Jess will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 28, 2014, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Judy Marshall officiating. Public visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until services begin at 10:00 a.m., where his family will be present to greet friends. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Jess and his family. Born Jess Martelli, on June 14, 1930, in Madrid, Iowa, he was the son of Dominque and Carrie (Walker) Martelli. Jess grew up during the great depression, working in coal mines, driving trucks, and finally retiring from Lennox. Jess was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marjorie, in 1949, and to this union seven children were born. Following their marriage, they made their home in Marshalltown and lived in the community for nearly fifty years. Jess had passions for fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Richard (Carlene) Martelli, Jess (Vickie) Martelli, JoJo (Hilary) Martelli, Steve (Denise) Martelli, Vicky (Joe) Plesek, Pam (Terry) Spading, and Patty (Vestor) Rawlens; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. Jess is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Marjorie, and his parents. Jess made many friends during his lifetime and will be missed by everyone.
