Born on January 24th, 1991, in Iowa City, she was the daughter of Emmett Street and Beth (Bush) Short. At age 16, she was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure, leading to a life of dialysis and health challenges that she faced bravely and fiercely. For years, the University Hospital was home. Even though she was unable to graduate with her classmates, she gained her high school diploma through the GED program. She is a proud high school graduate!
Many knew Jessica from Casey’s in Albion and local bars where she tended the counter. She made many friends over the years. She loved her family and her “fur babies”- Crown, Cocoa, Pandi and TyTy. Known as Messy Bessie by her family, a trashed out bedroom as a child was normal. She cut up everything- even her sister Jamie’s cloths to make them fit her. She was definitely OCD- arranging food in the grocery cart much to mom’s dismay, and taking hours more time. Jessica collected the wraps from her dialysis to brighten up her lamp at home, shot glasses from places visited and Zippo Lighters. She was a heck of a pool player and loved her coffee. A perfect meal would be her mom’s mashed potatoes, chicken noodles, Rolls and tacos- but they could not touch!!!
Left to cherish her memory are her mom Beth (Larry) Short of Albion, her dad Emmett (Deb) Street of Beaman, siblings: Jamie Street, Ashley Short, Justin Short all of Marshalltown, Larry Short of Ames, Paul Wood of Des Moines, Ryan Wood of Houston, TX and Matthew Wood of Ankeny, her grandpa John Bush of Albion and grandma Peggy Street of Gladbrook, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In death, she rejoined her grandpa Street and grandma Bush.
