Jessie Kaisand

Jessie Kaisand, age 80, of Union, Iowa, passed away peacefully at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown on January, 25, 2026 with her son at her side.

Funeral services for Jessie will take place on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 beginning at 11:00 A.M. at the Union Community Church. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jessie’s name may be directed to the BCLUW Foundation or the Union Community Church. Jessie Louise Hanson was born November 1, 1945 in Union, Iowa. She was the oldest of three children born to John and Goldie (Sorensen) Hanson. She grew up in Union and attended school at Union/Whitten Schools later graduating.

Jessie was united in marriage to James Kaisand. Together they had two sons, Jeff and Jared. The two later separated. Jessie spent the early years of her children’s lives caring for them. Later on, she attended Iowa State University where she received her Master’s in Education. She additionally attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. In the 1990’s, she found a new passion for teaching and began working for the BCLUW School District where she taught for 25 years until her retirement.

In her free time, she was a member of the Union Community Church, the Iowa State Alumni Association and the Sewing Guild. She enjoyed making clothes for her family and friends and working on various sewing projects over the years. In the summer months, she loved gardening and going to Leech Lake in Minnesota where she liked to fish and vacation. In her travels, she had the opportunity to go overseas to Scotland. In her later years, Jessie enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, watching her grand puppy, spending time with her family and golfing.

Those left to remember and cherish her memory are her son, Jeff (Heidi) Kaisand; her grandchildren, Henry (Anadia) Kaisand, Goldie Kaisand, Virginia Kaisand and Walker Gaul; her siblings, Janet Johnson and John (Glenda) Hanson; along with two nephews and a niece.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jared Kaisand; her parents, John and Goldie Hanson; brother-in-law, John Johnson; and her grandparents.
