James Whitmore, 57, of Traer, Iowa passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016, in the comfort of home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2016, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at the funeral home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. James Dean Whitmore was born on May 31, 1958, in Marshalltown, Iowa; he was the son of Dean and Patricia (Nelson) Whitmore. Jim attended school in the Marshalltown Community School District graduating with the class of 1976. On May 23, 1981, Jim was united in marriage to Colleen Ersland at the First Congregational Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. They had resided in Marshalltown and in Traer, Iowa for the last 20 years. Jim worked for Iowa Glass Auto Glass for 27 years. Jim enjoyed golfing in the Mens League, bowling, softball, coaching softball, fishing, camping, and was a gamer with online games and recently joined Facebook, everyone knew he was an avid IOWA HAWKEYE FAN. He was proud to be a big brother in his family and loved being an uncle to his 36 nieces and nephews, 34 great nieces and nephews and 1 great-great- nephew. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 34 years, Colleen of Traer, Iowa, Children, Candice(Brett) VanHove of Hudson, Iowa, Jarrod(Sarah Lewis) Whitmore of Marshalltown, Iowa and Caitlin(Zac Hemenway) Whitmore of Traer, Iowa, and Grand-children, Blake and Cambree VanHove and one more baby on the way, Siblings, Patrick (Tanja) Whitmore of Melbourne, Iowa Mike(Kelly) Whitmore of LeGrand, Iowa, Shellie(Terry) Heil of Marshalltown, Iowa, Melodie Whitmore of Marshalltown, Iowa and Todd(Diane) Whitmore of Marshalltown, Iowa and Step-mom, Georgie Whitmore Of Marshalltown, Iowa and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In death Jim joins his parents, Dean and Patricia and a sister in infancy, Cheryl.
