Edward “Ed” Francis Boston, 81, passed away on February 7, 2024, at the Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs. Joan Lorraine Boston, his wife, 90, passed away on January 15, 2026, at the Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida, Colorado.
Ed Boston was born August 8, 1942, in Jericho Springs, Missouri, to Frances and Beatrice (Wolf) Boston. He met Joan Wickersham, born March 14, 1935, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Emmett and Mabel Wickersham, and the two were married on September 4, 1964, in Melbourne.
The couple lived in Marshalltown, where Ed farmed and worked at Fisher Controls as a skilled trade die and tool maker. Joan also worked at Fisher Controls as a secretary. She later worked as the office manager at Bob Marshall CPA Office and Edward D. Jones Brokerage in Salida.
Joan was admired for being a beautiful seamstress and her constant willingness to learn, particularly when it came to maintaining her computer skills into her late 80s. She eagerly embraced her husband’s hobbies, including flying and motorcycles. Ed also enjoyed collecting classic cars, being a “Ford Guy,” and old tractors, as well as fabricating trailers.
In the 1970s, the couple survived a private plane crash near the top of Tincup Pass in Salida, Colorado. They were embraced by the Salida community during their rescue and spent many months recuperating. After recovery, the couple decided to move to the Salida area in the 1980s.
Joan and Ed traveled extensively, visiting almost 40 different countries by cruise ship and 49 states by private plane. They always enjoyed the fellowship of friends with a good cup of coffee. The two spent 59 wonderful years together.
They are preceded in death by Ed’s parents and brothers, Dale and Lloyd, as well as Joan’s parents and her sister, Dorothy Rider. They are survived by Ed’s sister, Charlotte Coulthard; and numerous nieces and nephews.
