Joan Botts, 76, of Marshalltown, died early Friday morning, May 9th, at the Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 12th, at St. Henrys Catholic Church with Fr. Don Czapla officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at St. Henrys. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Born Joan Hausladen on February 16th, 1932, in Waukon, Iowa, she was the daughter of Anthony and Theresa (Kraemer) Hausladen. She graduated from the Sacred Heart High School in Waterloo and received her teachers certificate from UNI before earning her Bachelors Degree from Drake University in Des Moines. On February 6th, 1954, in Waterloo, she was united in marriage to Sherman J. Botts. They made their home in Marshalltown where she taught at St. Henrys School and later the Marshalltown Public Schools, retiring from the Anson Elementary School. Mrs. Botts was a founding member of St. Henrys Parish, enjoyed her bridge club, was an active and avid Democrat (running for Marshall County Supervisor) and treasured her family. Left to cherish her memory are five children: Sherman A. (Becky) Botts of Overland Park, Kansas, Michael (Susan) Botts of Alexandria, VA, Therese (Steven) Sizer of West Bend, WI, Martin P. (Carol) Botts of Dyersville, Iowa and Catherine (Bill) Brett of Des Moines, 14 grandchildren: Emily, Carly, Moriya, Madeline, Gabriel, and Amelia Botts, Steven and Joanna Sizer, Marc, Thomas, Anthony and Nicholas Botts and Eily and Joseph Brett. Also surviving are her siblings: Germaine Hausladen of Cedar Rapids, Anthony Hausladen of St. Louis, LaVonne Wayne in New Hampshire, and Thomas Hausladen of Indianapolis. In death she has rejoined her husband, Sherman who died on April 21st, 1979, her parents, one brother and two sisters.
