Joan Cordt, 62, of Marshalltown, passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2011 with Fr. Don Czapla officiating at St. Henrys Catholic Church. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. Henry's Catholic Church, with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com.Joan Ellen Kelley was born on October 28, 1949 in Des Moines, Iowa; she was the daughter of John Jack B. and Rose (OBrien) Kelley. She attended school at St. Josephs Academy in Des Moines, graduating in 1967. Joan then attended DMACC, Iowa State University, Buena Vista, and finished her studies at San Francisco State University with emphases in Art, Business and Gerontology. On October 21, 1986 Joan was united in marriage to Joe Cordt, and they lived their married lives in Marshalltown. She was a member of St. Henrys Catholic Church. Joan worked as a TV talk show host with KDAO, hosting Marshalltown Today as well as hosting a Gravesend Manor style show called Spooks Hotel. She also worked as the Executive Director for Big Brothers and Big Sisters. For the last 15 years, Joan owned and operated Joan's Tailoring. Joan was a very creative person. She was a talented artist and a beautiful singer. She loved arts and crafts, and was a skilled seamstress. She was also a magnificent cook. Joan was a dog lover and presently owned 2 poodles. Most of all she loved her family, especially her daughter Kelley.Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 25 years, Joe of Marshalltown; her daughter, Kelley (Steven) Klosterman of Marshalltown; her father, Jack Kelley of Iowa City, Iowa; her siblings, Mary Lou Vaughn of Clive, Iowa, Kevin John (Marie Wilkes) Kelley of Iowa City, Iowa, Patrick Joseph (Todd Owens) Kelleyof Vera, Oklahoma, John Edward Kelley of Dallas, Texas and Steven Phillip (Michele) Kelley of Dallas, Texas; nieces and nephews, Erin Rose Vaughn, Kathleen Rose Kelley, Shannon Marion Vaughn, and Jack Edward Kelley; and her in-laws, Jim and Dorothea Cordt of Marshalltown.In death Joan rejoins her grandparents, her brother Michael, and her mother Rose. .
