Joan Marie Hemphill

Joan Marie Hemphill, age 86, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Sunday, February 2, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Joan was born in Marshalltown to the late George and Grace Zuercher on July 18, 1927. She was married to Hubert Wayne Hemphill for 41 years until his death in 1989. Joan was the mother of three children, Jill Clothier (deceased), Kim Hemphill of South Riding, Va. and Todd Hemphill of Vancouver, Wa. She is also survived by three grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother Bill (Dena) Zuercher of Marshalltown and her sister Jeannette Perisho of Palmetto, Fl. Joan graduated from Marshalltown High School and then attended Art College in Minnesota. She moved to California in 1952 where she worked as a manager for the Broadway Department store and then at General Telephone Company before retiring in 1986. After living in Louisiana and Colorado, she returned to Marshalltown in 2008. Joan had a life-long passion and love for art and she used her artistic talents to create many paintings, pencil drawings and greeting cards which she often generously gave to family and friends. No services are planned. Joan will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends. Memorial contributions may be directed in Joans name to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
