October 11, 1941 — April 25, 2023

Joan M. Kyle, 81, lifelong resident of Gilman, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 under the care of Iowa River Hospice.


Services for Joan will take place on Saturday, April 29 at 10:00 A.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. She will be laid to rest at Prairie View Cemetery in Gilman. Friends and family are also invited to attend a visitation on Friday, April 28 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Born Joan Margaret Anderson on October 11, 1941 in Gilman, she was the daughter of Fred and Gertrude (Gummert) Anderson. She graduated from Gilman High School in 1960, where she was first chair trumpet player. She also enjoyed playing the piano. Joan was previously married and blessed with her son, Sean. Later she met the love of her life, Jack Kyle, and they were united in marriage on May 16, 1981 in Marshalltown. In addition to her dedication to her family, Joan worked hard as an accountant buyer for Glick Supply. A social butterfly, she enjoyed staying active through several organizations, including Ladies Axillary at the VFW and as president of the Gilman Library Board. She also served as president of the Women’s Guild at United Church of Christ in Gilman, where she was a member. In her free time, Joan loved reading, shopping and going to the casino. Her family meant the world to her, and she will be deeply missed by all those who loved her.


Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband, Jack; her son, Sean (Brenda) Lawyer and stepchildren: Jill (Bill) Laidlaw, Bill (Tammy) Kyle and Deb (Ken) Saul; grandchildren: Shelby, Tawny, Bailey, Darrick, Mikaila, Alexis and Breanna; great-grandchildren: Chance, Eli, Mavrick, Paisleigh and Millie; her brother Larry (Pam) Anderson; two nephews: Richard (Jeannie) Stonewall and Bryce Anderson; niece, Amy (David) Wlotkowski; great-nephews: Ben (Becky) Stonewall and Andy (Melany) Stonewall and great-nieces: Natalie and Molly Wlotkowski.


In eternal life, she is reunited with her parents Fred and Gertrude, her sister Dorothy Buschbom and her brother Carroll “Bud” Anderson.
