JoAnn gained her angel wings on February 6,2026. She was under the care of Eldora Specialty Care and hospice of Care Initiatives. Due to her wishes and those of the family cremation rites have been requested with no formal service at this time.
JoAnn was born in Henderson, Texas, on October 22, 1935, to parents Myrtle Lucille and Tom Baggett. JoAnn, family, and friends celebrated her 90th birthday in October 2025.
JoAnn grew up in Minden, Louisiana, where she graduated from Minden High School in 1955.
JoAnn married the love of her life and her soulmate, Richard Henry McComic, on May 15, 1955. During their marriage they lived in Shreveport, Louisiana; Minden, Louisiana; Monroe, Louisiana; Ball, Louisiana; Lafayette, Louisiana; Memphis, Tennessee; and finally moved to Glendale, Arizona.
JoAnn and Richard had two children, Richard Dale and Cynthia Ann. JoAnn was very active with the children while they were growing up and their activities. She was an assistant Girl Scout leader and area cookie chairman, chaperone for band at Lowe Junior High School and Minden High School, as well as a cheerleader for little league football and car racing. Joann had several jobs outside the home over the years but loved being a wife and mother most of all. She was a wonderful seamstress and loved to crochet.
After the death of her husband in 2024 JoAnn moved to Marshalltown, Iowa, to be near her daughter and family. She loved talking to her life long friends on the telephone and spending time with family.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Henry McComic, her son Richard Dale McComic, and a granddaughter, Kristen Renee Campbell. She was also preceded in death by her both of her parents, two sisters, Francis Billiott of Texas and Judith Greene of North Carolina; one brother, Tommy Lee Baggett of North Carolina; and two nephews, Barry Michael of Seattle, Washington, and Paul Michael of Dallas, Texas.
JoAnn is survived by her daughter Cynthia Ann Campbell (John Steven) of Marshalltown, Iowa; three granddaughters: Kimberly Ann Campbell of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Kelly Marie Dunbar (Stacey) of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Kourtney Erin Murphy (Ryan) of Treynor, Iowa; six great grandchildren: Lakelyn Harper Dunbar, Luka Gene Dunbar, Emery Lane Dunbar, Tripp Kiernan Murphy, Jonathan Michael Murphy, and River Haven Murphy. She is also survived by one brother. Roy Glenn Baggett (Mary) of Aubrey, Texas.
