JoAnn Margaret Mauk passed away peacefully Thursday, June 30th at Accura Healthcare in Marshalltown, Iowa. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 20 at 11:00am at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. JoAnn Margaret Bronsema was born on March 15, 1931, to Louisa Nelle (Stock) and Bruno W. Bronsema in Hubbard, Iowa. She graduated from Dumont High School in 1948. JoAnn was united in marriage to Arthur Graydon Mauk in Des Moines, Iowa on April 19,1952 and they lived in Norwalk, Iowa prior to moving to Marshalltown in 1993 to be near their children. After graduating from Broadlawns School of Nursing she worked at Broadlawns in the psychiatric unit and as Director of Nursing in Norwalk and Assistant Director of Nursing at Wesley Acres in Des Moines. She also worked at Villa Del Sol after moving to Marshalltown. JoAnn was a dedicated nurse and enjoyed building relationships with the residents and staff. She volunteered at the Veterans Home after retirement until her health declined. JoAnn attended Journey Church in Marshalltown. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafts, knitting, playing cards and cribbage, and was an avid quilter making quilts for babies, graduations, weddings, and birthdays. She loved making presents for people and hosted an annual Christmas Party for the neighbors in Norwalk. JoAnn enjoyed traveling, whether it be taking the grandkids on an Iowa adventure or visiting friends and family out of state. She enjoyed spending time with family and supporting them any way that she was able. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Mark Mauk (Mary) and Marilee Nichols (Greg) both of Marshalltown, twelve grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren, and sister Dorothy Thomsen of Sitka, Alaska, and extended family and friends. In death, JoAnn joined her parents, husband Arthur, infant daughter Pamela Ann, siblings Frank, Lester, Lyle, and Beverly. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice, Marshalltown, Iowa. The family would like to thank Accura Healthcare and Iowa River Hospice for caring for JoAnn.
