Joann Swartz

Joann L. Swartz, 85, of Marshalltown, died Sunday morning, December 29, 2013, at the Villa del Sol. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2014, at the 1st United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to her family. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234. Born Joann Collins on July 29, 1928, in Albion, Iowa, she was the daughter of Daniel Collins and Helen (Sturm) Collins. She graduated from the Albion High School and later attended AIB in Des Moines. On December 18, 1949, she was united in marriage to Denny Swartz at the Albion United Methodist Church. They made their home in Albion until moving to Marshalltown where she was employed with Lennox and raised her family. After retirement, Joann volunteered at Hoglan School. Joann was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church, Leornian Club and area card clubs. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, time with friends, and church family, and treasured her own family. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Cynthia (Jerry) Kutzner of Marshalltown, and Jeff (Joni) Swartz in Texas; her grandchildren: Angela (Mike) Trachta of Marion, Iowa; Jamie (Alicia) Kutzner of Waverly, Iowa; Julie (Charles) Hill of Des Moines, Iowa; Courtney (Zach) Brobst of Omaha, Nebraska; and Ashley (Brian) Foster of Newton, Iowa; as well as great-grandchildren: Emma, Molly, and Alice Trachta; Lillian, Hendrik, Oliver Hill, Hart Kutzner, and Kinley Broust . Also surviving are her only surviving brother, Richard (LaVonne) Collins, of Bettendorf, Iowa, and sister-in-law, Lorine Collins, of the Villa del Sol; and nieces and nephews. In death, Joann rejoined her beloved Denny, her parents, brother, Donald Collins, and in-laws, Marie and John Swartz.
