Joanne "Jo" Lurvey

The kind and gentle soul of Joanne “Jo” Lurvey, 72, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the evening of May 15, 2021 at Grandview Heights Nursing Home in Marshalltown, Iowa surrounded by her family. Services for Jo will be held on Friday, May 21, 2021 beginning at 1:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jo’s name may be directed to the family for a later designation. Joanne Marie Bertalot was born January 25, 1949 to parents Raymond and Cora (Margherio) Bertalot in Spring Valley, Illinois. She was one of six children. Joanne grew up in the Spring Valley area and attended school in their school district. On January 20, 1967, Joanne was united in marriage to the love of her life Loren Lurvey in Spring Valley. Together they moved to Marshalltown, Iowa in 1969 to begin raising their family. Family was a major part of her life raising her children and some of her own grandchildren. The two celebrated many joyful years together until Loren’s passing. In her free time, Jo enjoyed her crafting activities. She worked through various crochet projects, cross stitches and just crafts in general. She and Loren enjoyed to travel especially to different car shows in the area and traveling to as many Smitty and Nula dances often traveling a couple hundred miles to ensure not missing one. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading, watching her court tv shows and while a resident of Grandview, hanging out with the nurses. Left to remember and cherish her memory are her children Terry Bertalot, Brenda Lurvey, Susan Lurvey and Becky Lurvey; her grandchildren, Gerrod Lurvey, Cassy Mendez, Raymond Lurvey, Angel Pitman, Jeff Yilek, and Gwen Andow; her eight great-grandchildren; her siblings, Mary Bertalot, Debbie (Jack) Yeager, Ray Bertalot, Donnie Bertalot and Jerry Bertalot; and her mother Cora Bertalot. She is preceded in death by her Husband, Loren Lurvey; her son, Jim Bertalot; her granddaughter, Amber Bertalot; and her father Raymond Bertalot.
