Joel Figgins

Joel Figgins, 29, of Des Moines, passed away Friday, April 13, at his apartment of natural causes.Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, at St. Josephs Catholic Church in State Center with Fr. Rick Dagit as celebrant. He will be laid to rest in the St. Joseph Cemetery at State Center. Visitation will be held at the church from 7-9:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ph. 641-483-2900.Joel was born June 18, 1982, in Clinton, Iowa, to Jim and Nancy Figgins. He graduated from Clinton High School where he participated in cross country, track, band, Future Business Leaders of America, and math club. He attended Clinton Community College and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2004 where he participated in the Pacers Running Club and majored in Actuarial Science.Joel was employed in an actuarial internship in McLean, Virginia in 2006. The past seven years he has worked at Principal Financial in Des Moines as a Financial Analyst in the Life Insurance Department. He was a member of St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines where he served as an usher and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Joels passions were working at Principal (proud to be one of the first ones there every day!) and working out at the Principal Fitness Center.Joel is survived by his parents Jim and Nancy Figgins of State Center, his brother Jay Figgins of Cedar Falls, his grandmother Rita Figgins of State Center, his grandparents Richard and Margaret Evans of Audubon and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
