Joel Looft

Joel Russell Looft, 45, of Marshalltown, passed away on December 12, 2022.

A visitation for Joel will be held at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 18, 2022. Per Joel’s wishes he will be cremated and will be laid to rest at a later date in Armstrong, Iowa with a family service. Memorials may be directed towards the family.

Joel Looft was born on April 9, 1977, in Spirit Lake, Iowa to his parents Thomas and Julie (Johannesen). Joel grew up in Bondurant, Iowa and graduated high school from Bondurant-Farrar in 1995. He went on to attend Iowa State University and received a degree in Transportation and Logistics in 1999.

Joel worked for a few different transportation businesses throughout his career and was able to do a lot of traveling throughout the United States. Joel took pride in his work. He was a sports enthusiast. He loved to cheer on the ISU Cyclones football and basketball teams. He also had a great love for baseball. He would watch the Cubs, Twins and had a fondness for the New York Mets. He loved to talk about his experience with his involvement of sports growing up in baseball and wrestling.

After meeting his fiancée Emily Hall in January 2016, he soon moved to Marshalltown.

Left to cherish his memory is Emily, daughter Aubrey and stepdaughter Cora Hall. Parents Thomas (Desiree) Looft, Julie (Dennis) Rinard, siblings Jodi (Bill) Donovan, Joseph (Cara Briley) Looft and Angel Looft, niece Addison, Grandmother Marilyn Johannesen and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is preceded in death by grandparents Leon and Deloris Looft, Grandfather Morris Johannesen and uncle, Bill Looft as well as uncle, Joel Johannesen.
