John Richard Aymer, 77, of Marshalltown, Iowa, formerly of Decatur, Illinois, died Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa. Following cremation, memorial services for Mr. Aymer will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, July 26, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home.Masonic services will be administered by the Marshall Lodge #108. There will not be a visitation. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Shriners Hospitals for Children or the Albion First Presbyterian Church pipe organ fund. For further information or to send a condolence please visit www.mitchellfh.comMr. Aymer was born March 26, 1933, in Taylorville, Illinois, the son of Byron and Opal (Wilson) Aymer. He graduated from Taylorville High School in 1951. John married Shirley Foraker on March 25, 1956, in Taylorville, Illinois. He served in the United States Air Force as a Company Clerk, Early Warning Radar Station, Ellington AFB, Texas, during the Korean War. He graduated from Bradley University, Peoria, Illinois with a B.S. in Mechanical Physics in 1960, and an MBA in 1980. A 33rd degree Mason of the Springfield Consistory of the Scottish Rite, he was past master and secretary of the Stephen Decatur Lodge #979 AF & AM, past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, #111 Guiding Light Chapter, past president of the Decatur Shrine Club, Ansar Shrine Club Dune Buggies and the Early Bird Kiwanis, Decatur, Illinois. He was past district executive commissioner of the Lincoln Trails Boy Scout Council. John was a recipient of the BSA Silver Beaver and Order of the Arrow. He was a part time instructor of business at Richland Community College and former engineering manager of Burks Pump, Co., Decatur, Illinois.In Iowa, John was a past master of Marshall Lodge #108 and the Masonic service representative for the Iowa State Veterans Home. He was district committee member for the Mid-Iowa Council of the Boy Scouts of America, past president of the Matins Kiwanis of Marshalltown, Iowa, treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Mid-Iowa Workshop for People with Disabilities, member of Albion Lions, and attended the Albion, Iowa, First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Church of the New Jerusalem. He retired as Vice President of Engineering from MEPCO Pumps, Marshalltown, Iowa and was Vice President of Operations for Russell Pump & Engineering, Albion, Iowa, at the time of his passing. John enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially yearly fishing trips to Canada and also enjoyed golfing. During his spare time at home he would read historical based novels.John is survived by his wife Shirley of Marshalltown, Iowa, mother Opal Aymer of Decatur, Illinois; children John C. Aymer and Cynthia Aymer Fuller, both of Decatur, Illinois, and Brian (Jodi) Aymer of Springfield, Illinois; grandchildren Crystal Aymer of Bloomington, Illinois, Greg Fuller and Heather Aymer both of Decatur, Illinois, Tracy (Jeffrey) Potts of Beach Park, Illinois, Nancy (Kyle) Aymer Jeisy of Decatur, Illinois, and Angela Aymer of Springfield, Illinois; five great-grandchildren, his adopted sister Kay (Ken) Alexander of Minnesota, his brother-in-law Robert (Gwen) Foraker of Flippin Arkansas, his brother-in-law Lester (Karen) Foraker of Taylorville, Illinois, several nieces and nephews, one aunt, several cousins, and special friends Andy, Shelly and Blake Russell.He was preceded in death by his father Byron Aymer and his brother Thomas.
