John D. Coldren, 51, of Eldora, died early Friday morning, August 17, at his home. A visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Monday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service by his friend, Pastor Richard Evans officiating. Born on April 15, 1961, in Marshalltown, he was the son of John and Celia (Forbes) Coldren. He graduated from Marshalltown and began a career in food service. He enjoyed fishing, cooking and baking, playing cards and time spent with friends and neighbors in the apartment community room. Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Celia (Jim) Kilmer of Murphysboro, Arkansas, his siblings Susan (Alan) Clapp of Eldora, Tom (Tammy) Bowman of Ferguson and Jason Mitchell of Des Moines, several nieces and nephews, his honorary mom Wanda Gardiner of Eldora, son Michael Dudley Coldren and special friend and companion, Ivan Franco, as well as his family at the apartments in Eldora. In death, he rejoined his father and great-nephew.
