John Davis, 88, of rural Clemons, Iowa, died Saturday, October 15, at the Iowa River Hospice Home, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services for John will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 19, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Burial will take place at the Clemons Cemetery. Visitation for John will be held from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 18, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be directed in Johns name to his family. John was born December 20, 1922, near St. Anthony, Iowa, the son of Wiley and Susie (Hobson) Davis. His family moved to North Carolina following his birth and he remained there until his teenage years when he returned to the St. Anthony area. He started farming on his own in 1950 until the time of his retirement in 1977. Even during his retirement years John continued his love for farming by completing custom baling and combining. During his free time he enjoyed horses and especially loved to go mushroom hunting. John also had a great love for his many pet dogs over the years: Sonny, Koko, Junior, Chi-Chi, Trixi and Midnight. Above all, John was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family and will be greatly missed.John is survived by his wife Lorraine of rural Clemons, his children: Duane (Kathy) Davis of Clemons, Susan (Donald) Clubb of Melbourne, Roy (Lorine) Davis of Clemons, Barb (Mike) Evertsen of New Providence, Mary (Danny) Kennedy of Gates, North Carolina, Jamie (Todd) Weuve of State Center, Jim (Patti) Davis of Clemons, Bill (Rayleen) Davis of Garrison and Margaret (John) Leland of Vilonia, Arkansas, his sister, Vivian Browning of Statesville, North Carolina, his sister-in-law Mina (Bob) Sifrit of McPherson, Kansas, his 47 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, his great-grandchildren: Karleigh Hobart and Brant Saunders, his son-in-law Steven Weuve, and his sisters: Jamie Krutz and Kathleen Stikeleather.
