John Gibbons

John P. Gibbons, 98, of Marshalltown, formerly of Ottumwa, died Sunday night, September 6th, at the Villa del Sol where he has resided since April 2, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 11th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Ph 641-844-1234. Born on November 19th, 1910, in rural Mahaska County, Iowa, he was the son of Presley and Vernie (Martin) Gibbons. Upon his dads death at a young age, he moved to Davenport to receive his education and later returned to graduate from the Oskaloosa High School in 1929. John served our country honorably in the United States National Guard Cavalry. On April 30th, 1936, he was united in marriage to Doris Gray. They resided in Ottumwa where he was employed with John Morrell for 40 years. The couple moved to Marshalltown in 1998. He is survived by his three children: Gregory (Bertha) Gibbons of Attica, Iowa, Gordon (Mair) Gibbons of North Las Vegas and Carole (Michael) Tullis of Marshalltown, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris, two brothers, two sisters and one grandchild.
