John Joseph Gill

January 19, 1931 — June 10, 2025

John Joseph Gill age 94, of Marshalltown, Iowa, was called to Glory on the morning of June 10, 2025 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

John was born January 19, 1931 in Crystal City, Missouri. He was the fourth of eighteen children born to Raymond and Carrie (Sullivan) Gill. John attended school in Crystal City where he would later graduate high school. Upon his completion of high school, John enlisted in the United States Air Force on September 6, 1950. He served for three years during the Korean War where he served as a gunman. During the time in the service John was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal, U.N. Service Medal and Air Crew Members badge. On September 8, 1953, John was honorably discharged from service.


After serving, John moved to St. Louis, Missouri and he met and married Barbara Robinson. From their union, John had one son, John Gill Jr. Later on, they would divorce and John would move to Des Moines, Iowa where he worked for the Drake Hotel in their food service team. During this period of his life, he wore many hats. It was here that he met Gladys Moses-Robinson and the two were united in marriage. Their union lasted until Gladys was called to Glory in April of 2007.


Those left to remember and cherish John’s memory are his (step) daughter-in-law, Norma Moses of NY; grandson, Duane (Sandra) Moses of CA, Derrick Moses of NY, granddaughter, Dietra Moses of CA; sister, Janet Elord and sister-in-law Addie Moses of SC along with an additional five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, host of nieces and nephews, cousins and other loved and cherished family members.


John was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Carrie Gill; his second wife, Gladys Gill; and his step-son, Louis Moses.
