John Gilliland

John C Gilliland, 77, of Marshalltown passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospital with his family by his side. Visitation for John will held on Saturday, July 18, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for John and his family. John was born on January 1, 1938 in Grinnell, Iowa to Hugh and Mary Stull Gilliland. On October 9, 1955, John was united in marriage to Tootie Karol Moyer and to this union six children were born. John had worked at Wyss Produce, Lang Diary in Grinnell and Bruin Manufacturing for 40 years. He liked NASCAR and reading. When he was younger John liked trapping and hunting. John is survived by his wife of 59 years; Tootie. Children: Teresa (Randy) Yuska of Blue Grass, Mark (Nancy) Gilliland of Montour, Julie (Mark) Dimmitt of Texas, Janet Balster of Hiawatha, Jeff (Terri) Gilliland of South Dakota and Cory (Amy Adams) of Texas. Grandchildren: Chris Yuska, Brian Yuska, Brooke Dimmitt, Kyle Dimmitt, Logan Gilliland, Caitlin Butler, Tyler Gilliland and Ben Balster and five great grandchildren and a sister Rose Schocky. John is preceded in death by his parents Hugh and Mary, granddaughter Nicole Gilliland and four brothers and one sister.
