John Wayne Glessner, 81, of Marshalltown, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at his home under the Iowa River Hospice Home and surrounded by his loving family. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for John and his family. John Glessner was born on June 24, 1941, in Marshalltown to John William Glessner and Ruth Ione Sanderson. He graduated from State Center High School in 1959 and then served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1961 until 1964. He was in the A 5th, stationed in Fort Leonard Wood during basic training, then going to Mannheim, Germany and Fort Carson, Colorado. On May 5, 1979, John was united in marriage to Judy Langenbau. John had been employed with International Harvester as a mechanic, at Bloomquist Auto Repair as a mechanic as well as a truck driver for Central Iowa Trucking. He was a member of the Mid Iowa Antique Power Association. John was a long-time Chicago Cubs and Iowa State cyclone fan. He enjoyed IH tractors, skiing, golfing and farming. Most importantly, John was the best husband and enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow. John is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judy, son, Marvin and brother, Rick; step-children: Tracy (Randall) Hersom, Dale (Heidi) Langenbau, Mike Ragsdale, Mary Thomas, Jess Ridley and Dorothy Pinney; Grandchildren: Summer (Jay) Beichley, Cole Langenbau, Cooper Langenbau and Nate Hersom and his first wife, Alice Elizabeth Anderson. John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth; brother, Allen; and step-son Don Ridley.
