John Edward John Boy Hoff, 84, of Marshalltown, died Monday evening, December 31st at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center with his loving family at his side. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 4th, at St. Henrys Catholic Church with Fr. Don Czapla as celebrant. He will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery with full military honors by the VFW Harry C. Harter Post #839. The Mitchell Family funeral Home is caring for John and his family. Ph 844-1234. Born on July 15th, 1923, in Boonville, Missouri, he was the son of Edward Lewis and Ione (Brownfield) Hoff. He graduated from the Boonville (MO.) High School and served our country honorably in the United States Army from 1943 until receiving his honorable discharge in 1946. Mr. Hoff was stationed in the Philippines in WWII. On June 18th, 1946, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Wessing in Clear Creek, Missouri. They made their home in Pilot Grove, Missouri until moving to Marshalltown in 1959 and have resided here ever since. John was an independent gentleman who could build things, had a great sense of humor, loved to tinker with motors, watch John Wayne westerns, and go to his summer home at Table Rock Lake, fishing, boating, water skiing, being an avid NASCAR fan, and playing pitch. He truly loved his family and was all about them. Mr. Hoff was a member of St. Henrys and St. Marys Parishes, the Knights of Columbus, and the Teamsters Union. Left to celebrate his life are his loving wife of 61 years, Dorothy, his children: Judy (Bob) Cummings of Branson, MO., Scherry (Jim) Tichy of Marshalltown, Vicki (Dan) Cruikshank of Marshalltown and Shirley (Mark) Loney of Marshalltown, his treasured grandchildren and their families: Shannon (Bill) Jambard and Taylor and Morgan; Stacy (Nathan) Bellinger and Kincaid; Scott Cummings; Dr. Shane (Dr. Megan) Tichy and Nathan; Shelly (Oscar) Pasadas and Diego; Tiffany Cruikshank, T.J. Cruikshank, Jenna Loney and Jordan Loney, his sister Gerri Rhodes of Boonville, Missouri and sister-in-law Helen Hoff. In death he has rejoined his parents, brother Henry Hoff and brother-in-law, Harry Rhodes.
