John Ray Mayer II, 56, of Pensacola, Florida, died April 13, 2008. A visitation with his family will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, from 4-6:00 p.m. with a prayer service following at 6:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Born on January 26, 1952, in Marshalltown, John was the son of John Ray and Donna Jean (Kent) Mayer. He graduated from Toledo High School. John served in the US Navy for 4 years following high school. He was employed for many years as a truck driver. He lived in Marshalltown until 1998 when he moved to Florida. John enjoyed playing cards with friends and family. Left to mourn his loss are: his children, Lynda Miell, Vance Mayer, and Lance Mayer; one granddaughter; two sisters, Jean (Jerry) Barker of Marshalltown, and Susan (Larry) Forrest of Marshalltown; his nephews Jeff and Jay, his nieces Bethany, Stephanie, and Tiffany, and his uncle, Jim Kent of Calera, OK. In death he has rejoined his parents, grandparents, and several uncles.
