John "Jack" Raymond Arnett, born on February 1, 1938, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown, Iowa, with family by his side.
Memorial services for Jack will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Jack was the son of Leo Ray and Anna Joanna (Hermansen) Arnett. He was united in marriage on June 7, 1959 to Claudette Jean Nanny in LaPorte City. Jack earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Iowa State Teachers College, followed by a Master’s degree from Western New Mexico University and an Education Specialist degree from the University of Northern Iowa.
Jack began his professional journey in education at Strawberry Point, where he taught social studies and took on junior high coaching responsibilities. He then served as a guidance counselor in Dunkerton and Hudson. Jack held the role of elementary school principal at Nora Springs-Rock Falls and Edgewood-Colesburg, later ascending to Superintendent positions at Union-Whitten, Oakland, Carson Macedonia Schools, and finally Stratford.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Jack enjoyed a well-rounded life filled with various interests. He was a member of the LaPorte City Masonic Lodge, the Iowa School Administrators, The Republican Party and the Methodist Church. Jack enjoyed fishing, traveling, cruises, and woodworking. He also enjoyed swimming with his grandchildren, and “never met a stranger”.
Jack is survived by his wife of 66 years- Claudette. Children: Brian Arnett and Jana (Kipp) Johnson and grandchildren: Thomas Arnett, Michael Arnett, Sydney (Nathan) Jones and Carson Johnson.
