John Kennett

John A. Kennett, 68, of Marshalltown, formerly of Independence, died April 25, 2009, at the Iowa Veterans Home. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009, at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel. Private burial services will be in the Iowa Veterans Home Cemetery. He was the son of Arthur Frederick Kennett and Violet Mae (Postell) Kennett. He graduated from Independence High School. John served our country honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1959-1963. On June 13, 1964, John married Bonnie Thompson in Independence. They were divorced in 1975. John had lived in Independence until moving to the Iowa Veterans Home in September 2008. He enjoyed building projects, repairing things, welding, fishing, tinkering, and recycling.John is survived by his 3 children, Kelly Kennett-Petrillo of Independence, Shaun (Lia) Kennett of San Martin, CA, and Sonya Kennett of Jesup; his 3 granddaughters, Alasa, Amanda, and Gracie; his 2 grandsons, Zachary and Trevor; his siblings, Janis (Allen) Thompson, Jerry (Pat) Kennett, Jaynie (Roger) Pint, Jeanne Kennett, Joni Kennett, Jill Kennett, Jack Kennett, and Janette (Tim) Duffy; and several nieces and nephews. In death, he has rejoined his parents and his brothers, Jim Kennett and Joe Kennett.
