Mr. John Kupka, 83, of the Sunnyhill Care Center in Tama, formerly of Ferguson, died Sunday, June 1, at the Sunnyhill Care Center while in their care, the Iowa River Hospice and his loving family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 5th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Fr. Mike Mescher of St. Patricks Catholic Church in Tama and Pastor Bob Spilger of the Ferguson Christian Bible Church officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Born on May 17th, 1925, near Chelsea, Iowa, he was the son of Charles and Agnes (Musel) Kupka. He received his education in the rural Chelsea schools. Mr. Kupka farmed and sold vehicles for Braga Motor in Marshalltown and then drove bus for the City of Marshalltown. John loved talking with people and never knew a stranger. He also enjoyed old tractors, fishing and his chocolate lab, Meg. Left to celebrate his life are his loving wife, Darlene (Moore), whom he married at the Little Brown Church on July 6th, 1974, his children: Karen Guglielmetti of Belle Plaine, Larry (Reva) Kupka of Jarrettsville, Maryland, Russell (Judy) Kupka of Tama, daughter-in-law Deet Kupka of Tama, step-children: Cindy Moore and Judy (Mike) Sanders all of Vancouver, Washington, Greg Moore of Clive, eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Helen Kupka of Chelsea and several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his parents, son Jack and brothers Walter and William.
