John Henry Johnny Mohr, 87, of 2661 275th Street, Marshalltown, died Wednesday morning, October 3rd, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 6th, at the Ferguson Christian Bible Church with Pastor Bob Spilger officiating assisted by Dave Eggert. He will be laid to rest in the Timber Creek Cemetery near Ferguson. Full military honors will be provided by the VFW Harry C. Harter Post #839. Born on December 11th, 1918, on the family farm near Ferguson, he was the son of Henry and Amanda (West) Mohr. He graduated from the Ferguson High Schools Class of 1936. Johnny served our country proudly in the United States Army 101st Airborne during WWII. He participated in D-Day at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He returned to the area and was united in marriage to Phyllis Maxine Sparks at the Open Bible Church in Marshalltown. He was employed in farming, bulldozer operator and heavy equipment operator. Johnny was a member of the Ferguson Christian Bible Church, the Ferguson School Board, served as president of the Timber Creek Cemetery Association and enjoyed farming, running and arm wrestling. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 61 years, Phyllis, his dear children: David Mohr of LeGrand, Barbara Mohr of Marshalltown, Linda (Rod) Mohr-Harrison of Muscatine, Joan Mohr of Conrad and Karen (Dave) Eggert of Ames, his precious grandchildren: Deidra Mohr, Hallie Crouse, Ginny Zahnd, Casey Allen, Jony Allen, Tedd Allen, Buck Allen, Amanda Mohr, Melanie Bell, Jeremy Ferneau, Anna Ferneau, Michael Eggert, Sarah Eggert, Joanna Eggert, eight great-grandchildren, his sister Opal Zesch as well as several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his parents, son Michael Wayne Mohr, grandson Andy Ferneau, sisters Maude Goshon, Vera Zesch and Inez Johnson and brothers Ralph and Wendell Mohr.
