John Henry Nickerson, 97, of Marshalltown and Beaman, died Thursday afternoon, November 1, at the Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 5th, at the Oakland Cemetery at Beaman. There will be no visitation. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Born at home during a blizzard on February 16th, 1915, he was the son of Charles Charlie and Floy (Miller) Nickerson. He attended country school across from the farmed on which he was raised and later graduated from the Beaman High School. On November 24th, 1970, he was united in marriage to Julia Haskell Wooldridge at the Little Brown Church. John began his adult life farming with his father and later had a colorful career in banking, retiring as the President and CEO of the Farmers Savings Bank in Beaman. He was an advocate of his hometown- a place he loved. He and Julia supported many community projects and the Iowa River Hospice Home in his generosities. In younger years, John showed sheep and cattle with 4-H and in adult years became a 4-H leader. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Lavonne (Larry) Parks of LeGrand, grandchildren- Shannon (Darcy) Parks and their children Jacob and Olivia all of LeGrand and Heather (Jeff) Oelklaus and Cyan all of Colorado Springs, CO as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. In death, John rejoined his parents, wife Julia and brother in infancy.
