Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation prior to the service beginning at 9:00 A.M. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for later designation. John Paul Pohle was born on May 18, 1981 in Marshalltown, where he was raised and spent most of his adult life. He graduated from Marshalltown High School with the class of 1999.  A hard worker, Johnny was determined to make something of himself. He worked at Lennox Industries and Rainbow Car Wash before he found his true passion in 2007, when he began working for Union Pacific Railroad as a conductor/engineer. He was the Vice President of his union, Local 17 and he felt great pride in his job and loved his railroad family. After meeting the love of his life, Tess Christensen, they were united in marriage on January 23, 2008 in Marshalltown. As a loving father and dedicated husband, family was always Johnny’s top priority. When he wasn’t hard at work, he liked to be at home spending time with wife and sons, his beloved pets and his friends. He liked to kick back and relax, enjoying watching TV, listening to music and taking naps. He also really enjoyed doing yard work. Johnny was a big electronics guy, always bringing home the latest and greatest gadgets as he would say “it’s for the children.” His family and friends called him a “gentle giant,” because at 6 foot 4 inches tall, his love of people and all animals was even bigger than he was. He was a handy “Jack of all trades” and enjoyed using his skills to help others. Johnny was best known for his great smile with big dimples and white teeth and for the bling in his ear. Everyone who knew him loved him and he will be greatly missed by many. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 13 years, Tess; his sons: Carter Pohle, Landon Elliott and Austin Elliott; his mother, Dee Pohle; John (Jocelyn) Pohle Sr.; siblings: Lisa (Kelly) Cross, Lara (Loren) Jones, Michael Pohle, Chandra (Walt) Bell and Christina Pohle; his grandma, Ann Niedermann; aunt Elaine Niedermann; cousin Sarah Gummert and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He is also survived by his four cats: Buddy (his nap buddy), Mama, Storm and Bear; his dog, Sadie; his large railroad family and many friends. Johnny is preceded in death by his grandparents: Kenny Niedermann, Tom and Margaret Pohle and John Paul.
