John B. Schatzman Jr.

John B. Schatzman Jr., age 67, of Albion, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on the afternoon of October 17, 2026 in the comfort of his own home under the care of Iowa River Hospice.

Per John’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026 beginning at 10:30 A.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services. Those in attendance are encouraged to come dressed in casual attire. John Benjamin Schatzman Jr. was born April 6, 1959 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the youngest of five children born to John “Jack” Sr. and Clara (Schaper) Schatzman. John grew up in Marshalltown graduating from Marshalltown High School in 1977.

John was the proud father of two, he raised his daughter DeAna and son John III. He began a career at Fisher Controls in Marshalltown at the Governor Road Plant. In 2010, he met Suzana “Sue” Taylor and he moved to Albion. From their union, John gained three children, Roger, Meagan and Cody. John continued working for Fisher Controls until the time of his retirement in 2024.

In his free time, John loved the outdoors. He was often found outdoors any weekend between the months of September until March hunting. His favorite place to be was the Chelsea Marsh where he would go year after year to hunt waterfowl. Additionally, John enjoyed playing slow pitch softball amongst friends and going fishing. He also looked forward to his annual trips to Lake Pepin in Minnesota and Eagle Lake in Canada with Sue. In younger years, John could be found playing on various bowling leagues.

Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his loving companion of over 16 years, Suzana Taylor; his children, DeAna (Andy Morris) Schatzman, John (Lindsey) Schatzman III, Roger Taylor, Meagan (Kenny) Calkins and Cody (Emilie) Taylor; nine grandchildren, Emry, Audrie, Ansleighly, Julian, Josie, Miles, Ava, River and Khoa; great-granddaughter Ophelia and one more on the way; siblings, Allen Angel, Jackie (Denny) Karsjen and Jolene (Dusty) Mayer; sister-in-law, Becky; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John is preceded in death by his parents, John B. Sr. and Clara Schatzman; brother, Bill Angel and his sister-in-law, Patty.
