John C. Schipper, 87, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral Services for John will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 19, 2013, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. There will be no visitation prior to services. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for John and his family. John C. Schipper was born in Worthington, Minnesota on August 1, 1925, the son of Harm G. and Lucy ( Dirks) Schipper. John attended school in the Rushmore County School in Minnesota. John served our Country Honorably in the United States Army from May 1945 to November 1946, he served in France and Germany with the 508th Military Police Battalion in Germany. On August 12, 1950, John was united in marriage to Marlys Rae Noble in Sibley, Iowa. John had resided in Reading, Minnesota until the age of 5, Rushmore, Minnesota, until 17 years of age and then Allendorf, and Sibley, Iowa. John worked as a farmhand and carpenter throughout his life. John was a member of Trinity Reformed Church in Sibley, Iowa. He loved softball and was on the church softball team. John was on the school board for Holman Township School in Allendorf, Iowa. John enjoyed softball, baseball, working with wood, but above all he loved and cherished his children and grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory are his four daughters: Lorraine (Ronald) Kemmerer of Melbourne, Iowa, Lois (Merle) Harms of Story City, Iowa, Shirley( David) Rickerl of Boone , Iowa, Janice(Theodore) Kamstra of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and one son; Kenneth(Carol) Schipper of Brookings, South Dakota. Grandchildren: Sharon (Bryan) Hilleman, Curt(Carolyn) Kemmerer; Scott(Anne) Kemmerer; Tom (Katie) Kemmerer; Hiedi Chodur; Jennifer(Brian) Sink; Steven Harms; Nathan(Liz) Rickerl; Beth(Travis) Brunner; Lee(Jodie) Rickerl and Johnathan Schipper. Great-grandchildren; Abby and Kyle Hilleman; Connor, Nelle and Brynn Kemmerer; Jarrett and Jordan Chodur; Grayson and Carter Sink; Peyton Rickerl, Gauge and Bristol Brunner and Clay Rickerl and one brother, George Schipper of George, Iowa. In death John rejoins his wife, Marlys, infant son, parents, Harm and Lucy; sisters: Anna Reiter and Pearl Schipper; seven brother-in laws and six sister-in-laws.
