John Stangl, 79, of Marshalltown, died suddenly on Monday morning, November 19th, at his home. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 24th, at the Center Street Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest in the Center School Cemetery near Marshalltown with full military honors by the VFW Harry C. Harter Post #839. Ph 641-844-1234. Born on January 14th, 1928, in Carroll, Iowa, he was the son of Edward and Eva (Moylan) Stangl. He served our country honorably in the United States Navy Seabees from December of 1945 until 1947. On June 1st, 1949, he was united in marriage to Mary Jensen in Harlan, Iowa. They made their home in Harlan, Oregon and returned to Harlan before calling Marshalltown their home since 1956. He was employed in car body repair, Lander-Landon for five years, Marshall Lumber for nine years and retired from Fisher Controls in 1985. John enjoyed raising mules, his family, his neighborhood family, custom cars and was a charter member of the Iowa Coon Hunters Club (north of LeGrand) and attended the Center Street Baptist Church. Left to mourn his loss are his loving wife of 58 years, Mary, his sister Mary Lou Finken of Knoxville, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and his neighborhood family. In death he has rejoined his parents and sister, Marjorie Nelson.
