John M. Stevens, 53, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the morning of Thursday, June 09, 2016, at the Iowa Veterans Home with his loving mother by his side. Following Johns wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no public services held at this time. Johns family is planning on having a private family burial for John at Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, IL. Memorial contributions may be directed in Johns name to his family. Stevens was born on January 16, 1963, in Genesco, Illinois, the son of Aurelia (Shannon) Miller. He was raised and educated in a few school districts but spent his high school years in Jackson, Mississippi. Before John could graduate High School he enlisted with the United States Marines where he honorably served his country that he was so proud of. John was enlisted as a Marine on November 29, 1982 and retired on August 1, 2004, as a Chief Warren Officer, Rank 3. John was united in marriage to Analiza (Andrada) Stevens in the Philippines. John was such a dedicated Marine, he did not have much time for extra hobbies, but he always loved his family and cherished spending time together. Left to cherish his memory is his wife: Analiza Stevens; children: Samantha Smith, Brandon Stevens, Louva Stevens and Havana Stevens; mother: Aurelia Miller; sister: Julya (John) Myers; nephew: Daniel Myers and two nieces: Marcia and Megan Myers. He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Russell (Louva) Shannon and his step-daughter: Andrea Stevens.
