John Alois Vajgert, age 80, of Marshalltown, passed from this earthly life peacefully on the morning of Thursday, August 8th, with his family at his side. John passed away in the care of the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. His family greatly appreciates the care he received from Carrie, Sheryl and all of the IRH staff. A memorial visitation and gathering to honor his life will be held from the hours of 4 - 6 p.m. Monday, August 12th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Born on May 9th, 1939, in Marshalltown, he was the son and only child born to Louis and Mildred (Bulanek) Vajgert. He received his education in the Marshalltown High School. John served our country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1956 until 1959. On December 22nd, 1959, he was united in marriage to Mary Flores. They made their home in Marshalltown where he was employed for 37 faithful years at Fisher Controls, retiring as a foreman in 1997. He treasured his family and the time he shared with Mary traveling to Texas in the winters in their 5th wheel. John also adored Collie dogs and enjoyed his membership with the Interstate Motorcycle Club. Left to cherish his memory are Mary, his loving wife of 59 years; children, Liz (Mike) Benson of Marshalltown, Felix (Denise) Vajgert of Fairfax, IA and Joe (Lorretta) Vajgert of Des Moines; step-son Jesse (Amalia) Gonzales in Texas; three grandchildren, Lindsay Benson, Hannah Vajgert and Dustin Eash and two great-grandchildren, Tula Trimble and Liam Eash. In death, he rejoined his parents.
