John Wetherbee , 84 of Marshalltown , Iowa passed away Sunday, February 10, 2013, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at the funeral home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family. Phone 641-844-1234.John Edwin Wetherbee was born on July 15, 1928, in his parents farm home. He was the son of E.C. (Ned) and Bessie (Thompson) Wetherbee, the youngest of 5 children. John attended 8 years in the Wetherbee (Taylor #4) Country School, and graduated from Marshalltown High School with the class of 1945. He also attended Iowa State University. John started farming in Taylor Township in 1947. On December 4, 1949, John was united in marriage to Janet Mitchell in the Green Mountain Congregational Church. John was a dairy herdsman in Wisconsin and Western Iowa. He and his daughter, Cathy, moved back to Marshall County in 1988. John designed a new building and started another dairy herd and retired in 2006 due to his health.John always admired quality livestock of all species having shown draft horse colts, saddle horses, beef cattle, sheep, and swine in early years, and dairy cattle for 67 years. John was active in many dairy, agriculture and civic organizations and was also a faithful church member. Janet passed away December 7, 1981, after 32 years of marriage. On November 24, 1989, he was united in marriage to Geneve Carlon and they had 23 years together.Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Geneve of Marshalltown, Iowa; daughter, Cathy Jo Wetherbee of State Center; his sons: William (Diane) Wetherbee of Double Oak, Texas, and Jeffery (Sharon) Wetherbee of Sartell, Minnesota; his step-children: Joyce (Bill) Blomster of Fairmont, Minnesota; Gene (Chris) Carlon of Marshalltown, Iowa; Dwain (Rita ) Carlon and Janet Fox, both of Colorado; Don (Lori) Carlon of Marshalltown; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren, and 12 step-great-grandchildren. In death John rejoins his parents and his first wife, Janet; sisters: Mabel Grove, Margaret Adams and Marylyn Lair; and brother, Lowell Wetherbee.
