Johnnie Eugene Hitchings was born on February 23, 1942 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the son of Russell and Mildred (Chinn) Hitchings. Johnnie attended LDF High School and graduated with the first graduating class of LDF in 1961. On January 11, 1964 he married the love of his life, Mary Stanley at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. From this marriage, their three daughters were born: Leesa, Rita, and Valerie. Johnnie worked for Fisher Controls for a short period of time, before dedicating his life to farming full time in 1967. He really enjoyed working the land and the freedom that came with being self-employed. In his free time, Johnnie enjoyed riding his Honda Goldwing. He and his wife often took many trips around the state and the country. Johnnie also enjoyed riding his horses, but most importantly he loved spending time with his family. They were always his number one priority.
Left to cherish his memory are his three daughters: Leesa (Kurt) Terrillion of Altoona, Rita (Troy) Barnes of Conrad, and Valerie (Anthony) Lucking of South Jordan, Utah; his four grandchildren: Kayla, Stephanie, Jared, and Travis; his five great- grandchildren: Lydia, Presley, Brinlyn, Hayes, and Jett; and his two sisters: Judy (Arlan) Thorson of Ankeny, and Jane (Alvie) Smith of Marshalltown.
He is preceded in death by his parents Russell and Mildred; and his wife Mary.
