Jon M. Ellis, age 78, of Eldora, Iowa passed away peacefully on December 15, 2024 at the Iowa River Hospice House.
A committal service with full military honors is scheduled for Friday January 3, 2025 at 11A.M. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, IA. Jon Michael Ellis was born March 19, 1946 in Story City, Iowa. He was the son of John and Thresa (Hansen) Ellis. Jon attended Ames High School and graduated with the class of 1964. After graduation Jon decided to serve his country in the armed forces. During his 25-year military career, Jon served in the United States Army, Air Force Reserves, Navy Reserves and finally retiring from the Navy. On October 10, 1996 he married the love of his life, Barbra (Mark) Ellis in Iowa Falls. Jon worked for 20 years at the Animal Disease Lab in Ames and then continued as a truck driver for the Ames Processed Foods Company until his retirement in 2008. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, drag racing, collecting model trains, tractors, planes and fishing gear. Jon even had full dioramas of miniature towns to go along with displaying his various collections. Spending time with his family was very important to him and it always brought a smile to his face.
He is survived by his wife Barbra Ellis; his children: Bill (Dar) Ellis of Litchfilde, MN., Tracy Henderson of Nevada, IA., Kari Pearce of Nevada, IA., Kim (Terry) Payton of Boone, IA., and Travis Ellis of Eldora, IA.; 11 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Jon is preceded in death by his parents John and Thresa, and his step-dad Earl Anderson.
