Jon was born on May 9, 1965 in Rockford, Illinois to parents Marvin and Ruth (Lehto) Espenscheid. As one of 6 children, they moved between Illinois and Wisconsin, where he graduated from Argyle High School in 1983. He went on to attend his favorite school of all-time, Oklahoma State University. Jon graduated in 1990 with a bachelor’s degree in Ag Communications. After college, he worked for various show cattle operations, showing and producing livestock in various states including Kansas, California and Oregon. He also enjoyed his time working on harvest crews. Jon found his niche in the sales world and was an impeccable sales representative, selling everything from cooling towers to bereavement books. After meeting the love of his life, Shannon Evans, they were united in marriage on May 9, 1998 in Marshalltown. Together they made Marshalltown home, where they raised their two sons. Jon was a dedicated father, having coached his sons in every sport in which they participated. He had the privilege of cheering them on, as well as coaching many other youth over the years. In addition to his love of family and OSU, Jon loved watching sports and raising Hereford cattle. He was a member of Journey Church, the American Hereford Association and the Iowa Hereford Association. Jon was incredibly outgoing and loved helping people. His final selfless act of helping others came about from his untimely death: Jon was able to give the gift of life through organ donation. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 23 years, Shannon; his two sons: Evan and Ethan Espenscheid; his mother, Ruth Espenscheid of Argyle, WI; siblings: Sarah (Kevin) Lueschow of Peoria, IL, Ben (Bev) Espenscheid of Traer, Thad (Meredith) Espenscheid of Gladbrook, Amy Espenscheid of Centerville and Carrie Mann of Freeport; several nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends. In death, Jon is reunited with his father, Marvin and his grandparents.
