Jon Mccord

Jon M. McCord, 75, lifelong resident of Marshalltown, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Per the wishes of Jon and his family, cremation rites have been accorded. Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of life on Tuesday, July 6 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jon’s name may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown. Born Jon Michael McCord on December 15, 1945, he was the son of Howard and Vera Ann (Diekewicz) McCord. One of three children, Jon was born, grew up and graduated with the class of 1964 in Marshalltown. After graduating, he honorably served his country in the United States Navy. On April 1, 1978 he was united in marriage to Kathy Larson. Jon’s career as a journeyman electrician was spent at Lennox Industries and he was a member of the Central Iowa Daylily Society and a Master Conservationist. His passions included gardening, playing chess, deer and pheasant hunting, beekeeping and reading Sci-Fi. He was incredibly handy and enjoyed woodworking and remodeling. Jon felt best with a cup of coffee in hand and will fondly be remembered by all those who knew him for his sarcastic sense of humor. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 43 years, Kathy Larson; his children: Maureen Gale, Jack McCord and Arwen McCord; grandson, Ethan Gale; sister, Patricia Reilly; mother-in-law: Jean Larson; brothers-in-law: David (Doreen) Larson, B.J. Larson, Michael Larson (Sarah), Pat (Tracy) Parks and Danny (Scott) Parks; sister-in-law, Sharlene McCord; nieces and nephews: Sean, Erin, Danny, Patrick, Holly, Nicky, Emma, Brea, Roan, Mia, Brett, Treece and Linda and his faithful cat, Spot. In death, Jon rejoins his parents; his brother, Howard McCord; father-in-law, Richard Larson; brothers-in-law: Harry Reilly and Rick Larson and sister-in-law, Rosemarie Larson.
