Jon JT Tranbarger, 89, lifelong resident of Conrad, died in the peace of his home on Thursday late afternoon, March 3, in Conrad. Private family services will be held at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in the Conrad Cemetery at a later date. Ph. 641-844-1234. Born on April 30, 1921, on the family farm in Felix Township, Grundy County, Iowa, he was the son of Morrison A. (M.A.) and Carol (Lister) Tranbarger. He graduated from the Conrad High Schools Class of 1939.In September of 1942, he enlisted in the United States Navy taking cadet training in Eagle Grove, IA, and later St. Marys, CA. In September of 1943, he transferred to the United States Army and was stationed in Amarillo, TX. and later Phoenix, AZ.On November 4, 1944, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Barbara Loverin, in Amarillo, TX, while stationed there. After serving our country honorably, they farmed near Conrad all of their married life. Jon was a 67 year member of the American Legion Conrad Post #681 and nearly a 68 year member of the Roman Lodge AF & AM #564 of Conrad, now with the Marshall Masonic Lodge.Jon was born a farmer a passion that ran through his blood all of his life. He respected the land and cherished the opportunity to work it. He dearly loved his family, raising horses and mules, collecting antique Mustang cars and enjoyed Ford vehicles and IH tractors. He will be greatly missed by his family.Left to cherish his memory are Barbara, his loving wife of 66 years, his children: Leonard J. (Janice) Tranbarger of Conrad and Jaclyn (Lyle) Stolzman of Conrad; four grandchildren- Stacy (Scott) Cizek of Conrad, Casey (Stephanie) Stolzman of Conrad, Christine (Steve) Gus of Brooklyn and Jeanne (Clint) Smith of Canehill, Arkansas; 14 great-grandchildren- Terra, Taylor, Tommy, Mya, Maycee, Victoria, Zachary, Emily, Hannah, Conner, Paxton, Patience, Mariah and Ross, as well as nieces, nephews and friends. In death, Jon rejoined his parents, brother Maynor and sisters Dormalee Dickenson and Shirley Vosburg.
