Joni Lewis

The bright and shining soul of Joni Lewis, 63, of Marshalltown, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown.
Services for Joni will take place on Thursday, September 8 at 11:00 A.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Inurnment will be at Rose Hill Memorial Garden. Friends and family are also invited to attend a visitation one hour prior, beginning at 10:00 A.M. Joni’s family encourages all attendees to wear her favorite color, purple to honor her. Born Joni Marie Shutt on March 3, 1959 in Marshalltown, Iowa, she was the daughter of Ronald and Betty (Paxson) Shutt. She grew up in Marshalltown, where she received her education.
After meeting the love of her life, Jeffrey “Jeff” Lewis, they were united in marriage on November 9, 1991 at the Iowa River Church of the Brethren in Marshalltown. Joni dedicated 10 years as an environmental specialist at the hospital before retiring.
In her free time, Joni enjoyed painting, artwork and gardening. An avid lover of all animals since childhood, she especially had a soft-heart for stray cats and dogs. She was always the life of the party, dancing and joking and making other people smile. Joni was a loving wife, mother, grandma, sister and aunt and will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband of 30 years, Jeff; two children: Jillisa Shutt of Plano, TX and Josh Rhoer of Marshalltown; four grandchildren: Ava, Ronen and Luna Haunsperger and Silas Rhoer; siblings: LeAnn (Jim) Trowbridge and Mark (Kim) Shutt; brother-in-law, Daryl Boehmer and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Joni is preceded in death by her parents, Ronald and Betty; her sister, Cindy Boehmer and her grandparents.
